Chico, CA 04/17/2014 – Chico and its economic development partners known as Team Chico have been honored by the California Association for Local Economic Development for economic development.
The award was bestowed earlier this month after Chico beat out economic development programs from Dublin, Forest Lake, Rancho Cordova, Imperial Valley, Orange County and Riverside, according to a press release.
Chico Mayor Scott Gruendl and members of Team Chico received the award April 9 during a conference in Sacramento.
Recognition came from Team Chico’s results, which included more than 500 businesses “touched” with business visits or assistance; seed funding for five businesses; 1,058 jobs impact including 661 new jobs and 497 positions filled; $34.5 million economic impact; $12.4 million in new direct payroll; $3.9 million in new indirect payroll; $5.3 million in spending on local retail and services; and $1.2 million in local tax revenue.
Much of the new job creation came with Milestone Technologies entry into the market with 430 new jobs. The company answers technology questions in a call center.
Team Chico includes the city, Chico Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Chico Business Association, 3CORE, and the Alliance for Workforce Development, with support from Chabin Concepts.
