New Emergency Planning Regulations for Chemical and Biological Agents for British Columbia
Effective February 2, 2025, new emergency planning regulations for British Columbia businesses will replace existing emergency procedure regulations for dealing with emergencies involving hazardous substances originating inside or outside facilities.
The mandated new requirements include:
Performance of risk assessments for all hazardous substances stored at a facility, generated at the facility, or enter the workplace because of an emergency.
Development of a hazardous material inventory identifying substances stored on-premises.
Development and implementation of an emergency response plan that includes, among other required elements, emergency procedures for notification, protection, and worker safety as well as a written program for training and drills.
