After One Year, Milestone Helps to Boost Butte County-Chico Economy
Fremont, Calif., Nov. 5, 2014 – One year after opening a contact center in Chico, Calif., a new report shows Milestone Technologies has had a $140 million impact on the local economy by creating 436 direct jobs. The burst of hiring over the past year makes the Silicon Valley-based IT services firm the largest technology company in Chico and its third largest private employer.
“Milestone has helped to bring the Silicon Valley to our community and created good paying jobs that not only diversify our economy, but ensure that our residents don’t have to relocate to the Bay Area to find careers in technology,” said Chico City Manager Mark Orme. “We’re especially seeing the impact of Milestone’s investment in home and vehicle sales, and that is a real boost to our economy.”
The economic impact report, prepared by Alliance for Workforce Development , takes into account payroll, expenditures on utilities, leasing of facilities, and equipment purchases to measure the direct and indirect impact of Milestone’s investment in Chico. The study also considers sales tax contributions and the ripple effect of Milestone’s investment on suppliers, retailers, and the local real estate market, among others.
“These are the kinds of jobs many companies offshore, but we believe that our clients are best served by keeping the jobs here,” said Milestone President and CEO Prem Chand. “I grew up in this community and I knew that Butte County had the talented and skilled workforce we needed to staff our center. And our clients are very happy with the service our Chico staff provides.”
The Milestone Contact Center in Chico is a 24/7 operation providing services for enterprise level clients. Milestone’s major expansion last October followed the opening of its first Chico office in July 2012 that continues to employ 20 people.
