Tech News Roundup: Everything you need to know about AI

Here’s a look at the latest IT stories to make headlines this week.

ZD Net: What is AI? Everything you need to know about Artificial Intelligence

Decades ago, Artificial technology could be summed up by a function performed by a program or a machine. Transferred by a human, for the machine to perform or think like one. The world is increasingly exposed to AI. It is everywhere from our mobile devices to big companies. We rely on it in our everyday lives, and we don’t even know it. AI can to some degree mimic our behaviors that we as humans perform, on a level associated with human intelligence. As different as we are as people, there are also different types of AI. From Narrow, General Neutral and beyond, the components of AI may possibly be as different as each one of us. Many AI experts feel that there is a vast range and opinions in how quickly AI systems will one day surpass the capabilities of humans. Until then, knowing what AI is and preparing for it, sounds like the quite possibly, the best plan for our futures.

New York Times: How Artificial Intelligence Is Edging Its Way Into Our Lives

Are you ready for Artificial intelligence? Ready or not, it’s here and taking over more rapidly than you might think. With unlimited possibilities, it is also raising a myriad of concerns. The New York Times explored these questions and thought this week at the annual New Work Summit, featuring technology executives, A.I. researchers, investors and others. A fear that many have is that will AI replace humans. Big companies like Google explain that “A.I. is made by humans, intended to behave by humans and, ultimately, to impact humans lives and human society.” They go on to say, “That researchers must work to ensure that A.I. embodied human qualities and that it would ultimately operate alongside humans, not replace them.” The ultimate question is how will this transform companies and how we live our lives moving forward?

Gartner / ZD Net: Gartner recommends lessons for CIOs when deploying AI

When it comes to AI many people feel it is a subject that is still on the horizon. The truth of the matter is many companies and CIOs are implementing it even in the small doses. According to Gartner 4% of CIOs have incorporated artificial intelligence (AI) with 46% planning to do so.  Gartner research Vice President and analyst Whit Andrews states, “Despite huge levels of interest in AI technologies, current implementations remain at quite low levels. However, there is potential for strong growth as CIOs begin piloting AI programs through a combination of buy, build and outsource efforts.” He continues to give suggestions for successfully implementing AI into your business productivity. From where to aim initially to choosing a transparent solution. One piece he recommends and what seems to be an obvious suggestion- focus on augmenting people not replacing them.
