Limiting Number of Inactive picklist values are available to help you protect the health of your Salesforce org. Inactive picklist values can be intentionally created for future use. But in some cases, numerous inactive picklist fields can lead to performance issues.
This update is designed to improve org health and performance by restricting the number of inactive picklist values in a custom picklist field. With this update, the ability to have an unlimited number of inactive picklist values is removed. This update is announced in Spring ’23 and is enforced in Summer ’23.
We also have the option to get an email that tells you which custom picklist fields have more than 4,000 inactive values. Using this information we can delete inactive unused values in the identified picklists.
CHANGES AFTER THIS UPDATE
On enforcing this update, the remove upper bound on inactive picklist values panel is removed from the Picklist Settings page in Setup. Then you can’t remove the upper bound on inactive picklist values, and the maximum number of inactive picklist values is 4,000.
